Healing Hands Network is a small UK based charity dedicated to the relief of suffering caused by warand its aftermath. We have been working in Sarajevo in Bosnia since 1997, sending volunteer comple-mentary therapists to treat people suffering from the physical and emotional after effects of the Balkan war.
Last year we started a project in the UK, in collaboration with Combat Stress, working with returning service personnel at their drop-in centres East Anglia, London and Liverpool. We are also working with SSAFA in Birmingham.
The drop-in centres are usually held every other week or monthly. Attendees have the opportunity to call in over the space of two or three hours to receive advice, information, support from other military charities such as the Royal British Legion and free treatments from our volunteer therapists. Many of the veterans are suffering from mental trauma or PTSD and some also have physical conditions from their time in active service. Our experience in Bosnia suggests those suffering from these conditions benefit greatly from the sorts of treatments we can provide, which include hands-on complementary therapies as well as reiki and healing. All our members are fully qualified and experienced.
The drop-in centres are all over the UK so we are constantly looking for therapists to support our work. At the moment we need therapists in Essex, and possibly in the South West, Wales and Glasgow.
If you feel you could help with our UK based Forces Project or with our project in Bosnia, please get in touch with us either via our website, http://www.healinghandsnetwork.org.uk, or by contacting our administrator Sandra Griffiths by email on firstname.lastname@example.org or on 01885 410620 for an application form and more details.
