For the 2nd year the IIR UK will be at the exhibition doing taster treatments and talking to visitors about reflexology and our training seminars.

The IIR had a fantastic reception last year and are hoping for similar this year. In preparation for this there are more reflexologists on hand to do treatments and others helping to keep the smooth running of timings and sales of our products.

If you are interested in visiting the exhibition you can obtain FREE tickets from Beauty UK online or by calling them with your details. You can then come and say “Hello” to all at the IIR UK stand or better still come and join us for an hour or so. Bring any leaflets and/or business cards and they can be handed out to all the visitors. Contact Vicky Laws with your details to be added on to the rota stating what you would like to do and which times are the best.

One of Vicky’s students visited last year and said out of the whole show the IIR stand was the busiest!

The International Institute of Reflexology UK is pleased to be hosting for the second time running and by popular demand, one of Greece’s leading reflexologists and President of the Hellenic Association of Reflexologists HAR, Mr. Spiros Dimitrakoulas to teach his inspiring Orthopedic Reflexology course.

Spiros Dimitrakoulas is President of the Hellenic Association of Reflexologists HAR and editor for 12 years of “Enarmonisi”, the HAR official magazine. Since 2003 he has continued in the role of Greek representative for Reflexology in Europe Network (RIEN). Spiros heads a team of reflexologists, working at the pain clinic of the university hospital Aretaieio, in Athens, in addition to running his own private clinic. He is a contributor and member of Professional Reflexology and his most recently published article is a documented history of reflexology.

Orthopedic Reflexology (OR)
The most common questions among students of reflexology, reflexologists and body workers in general regarding the practical part of their art is, depending on the nature of their clients problem(s) is where to rub (press), how strong (pressure) and for how long (duration)? These questions need to be answered every time we hold a pair of feet in our hands, either the first time or every other time after that. Independent of the school of thought you have been trained Orthopedic Reflexology supplements your existing knowledge by answering these questions every time.

Orthopedic Reflexology (OR) is based on the teachings of Hippocrates, the father of western medicine. This regards the art of rubbing – Anatripsis. Hippocrates wrote small concise passages on rubbing which he considered easy to learn and apply. Scattered in the Hippocratic corpus many references to rubbing (and of the feet) can be found, Orthopedic Reflexology (OR) is about utilizing the experience one has obtained in discriminating the reflex areas or the condition of the foot’s tissues and then applying the correct technique, the proper amount of pressure for the appropriate amount of time to achieve the medium as taught by Hippocrates in order for nature to heal.

There are so many different charts, which one is the best to learn, to use? Orthopedic Reflexology practitioners never stop learning, this is the fundamental concept of Hippocrates, they always seek knowledge, and thus they will study and learn as many charts as possible. We use the condition of the tissues of the feet to guide us; the body’s internal doctor will tell us what to do ,if we listen to the feet. Orthopedic Reflexology charts are anatomical foot charts, knowing these charts help us to understand zones, meridians, and fascia but also to effectively manipulate the feet.

Orthopedic Reflexology is also about learning the history, trying to understand why and how reflexology works, or why it does not. By trying to understand about pain, the nervous system and when to work the feet or hands, face or ears, and the effect the body’s internal – external environment has on it.

Please note – Orthopedic reflexology is open to all, not only reflexologists. Therapists who are new to working the feet will notice the differences, and body workers can use the information regarding rubbing immediately anywhere on the body, these are fundamental laws. Rubbing – anatripsis is the word Hippocrates used, while massage is of other origin.

Orthopedic Reflexology Course (Level 1 & 2)
This is an opportunity to learn the skills and techniques unique to ART in the beautiful and ancient city of Athens. The course will be taught in English with Greek translation.

ART™ is an evolvement of the traditional approach of finger and thumb walking, which forms the foundation of all good reflexology practitioner training courses. ART is the continuing education for the qualified Reflexologist and teaches effective clinical reflexology. ART techniques form an advanced, complementary approach and are effectively used alongside all modes of reflexology practice including the traditional Original Ingham Method®. Students will be shown how to detect the ‘disturbed’ reflexes of the feet, learn about the reflexes differing textures, what they mean, and treat them effectively.

This two-day comprehensive seminars provides students with the comprehensive instruction in the skills and techniques pioneered and developed by Anthony Porter over the last 30 years. All ART seminars are post graduate training in advanced techniques for the professional reflexologist.

75% of this ART seminar is practical based; demonstration with supervised Practice of ART Techniques. We will also cover the following aspects of ART™

Pain and the reflex picture

The 4 main reflex textures explained.

Reflex disturbance assessed/How to treat

Reactions to treatment/contraindications

Types of contacts used in treatment

The use of lubrication specific to ART

Working the feet in a sequential way

Working the reflexes systematically

Reassessing the Anatomical Guidelines of the feet

An ART™ Certificate of Attendance is awarded and 24 CPD points gained.

This one day workshop will explore traditional (Original Ingham Method®) and advanced approaches in reflexology to help practitioners successfully treat clients that suffer from acute and chronic back pain and associated conditions.

We will review the structure of the spine and spinal nerves and also the muscles and ligaments commonly involved in back pain. To complement the reflexology skills and techniques, students will additionally learn how to visually assess a client’s postural alignment, and some simple orthopaedic assessments that will help the practitioner better tailor their reflexology treatments.

Practitioners also get a chance to keep up-to-date, share ideas, network and fulfil their CPD requirements in a fun and supportive environment. All qualified Reflexologists are welcome to attend and will be awarded an IIR (UK) CPD certificate on completion. This is a post graduate master class.
